15 Minutes Consultation

National Network of online counsellors
For years Hope therapy has been creating opportunities for clients throughout the UK, via online counselling and CBT.
While face to face counselling and CBT is available in many locations, there are still many clients who for a variety of reasons choose to access counselling & CBT remotely.
Reasons for online counselling & therapy
There are many reasons why clients choose to embrace online counselling & CBT.
- You may be in an area where you struggle to access a particular specialism locally.
- The challenge of COVID means that many clients need or prefer the safety that this way of working brings.
- Many clients live busy lives and struggle to find the time to commute to wherever a face-to-face counsellor would be located.
- You may struggle with a condition or disability that makes commuting to a counsellor or therapist a huge challenge.
Online counselling is a highly flexible way of working, available from almost any location. It is even available via a mobile phone.
With this way of working your choice of counsellor or therapist is not limited to simply working with whoever is local. The opportunity of working with specific specialisms really starts to open up as does finding someone who is able to meet your needs for availability. We are literally able to connect you with the most suitable and available member of the team.
All of our therapists are experienced in this way of working.
Can anyone do online counselling & CBT?
You will simply need a quiet, private space with an internet connection in order to work with your therapist. Several platforms can be used such as Zoom, Skype, Teams, FaceTime and WhatsApp. Your counsellor will be able to discuss these options with you. If you are not familiar with the technology they will be able to talk you through how the technology works in a really easy and straightforward way.
Does working this way really work?
Unsurprisingly, considerable focus has been applied to online counselling and CBT including the use of video platforms.
“Videoconferencing interventions were reported to result in significant reductions in symptom severity, with outcomes comparable to face-to-face controls where these were included.”
Mental Health Policy Research Unit of the National Institute for Health Research (Barnett et al., 2020)
“One of the key features of effective therapy is the working alliance {Relationship between the counsellor and client} (Bordin, 1979) and a number of recent reviews indicate that being online does not reduce the ratings of the working alliance, with overall scores equivalent to face-to-face therapies (Berger, 2017; Richards et al., 2018) or even better (Holmes & Foster, 2012; Reynolds et al., 2013; Simpson & Reid, 2014; Watts et al., 2020).”

Can we do couples counselling online?
Yes. Both partners can sit together during the session as they would if they were working with a counsellor in person or they can be in completely separate locations if this is more practical.
All of our couples counsellors have a minimum of 10 years of experience and are highly experienced in this way of working.
Are your online counsellors still qualified?
Yes. All of our counsellors and therapists are fully qualified. They are also members of professional membership bodies (BACP, BABCP, NCS) and are experienced in providing counselling in this way.
How do we book?
We can either offer you a completely free of charge 15-minute consultation via the calendar at the top of the webpage if you would like to discuss things further. Alternatively, you can simply message us if you prefer and we can discuss the next steps in this way.
