How We Can Help
Support tailored to your needs
We offer specialist services for a wide range of emotional, psychological and relational challenges.
We also offer:
Getting Started
Three steps to the support you need
Taking the first step can feel daunting. We make it as easy as possible.
1
Book your free consultation
Choose a time that works for you. It’s a brief, relaxed conversation to explore what’s going on and how we might help – no pressure, no commitment.
2
We match you to a therapist
Based on your needs, preferences and availability, we connect you with a qualified, experienced therapist from our team.
3
Begin your journey
Start sessions online via Zoom or face-to-face at one of our locations. Your therapist will work at your pace, with your goals in mind.
Most clients hear back from us the same working day, and typically begin sessions within a week of the free consultation — depending on your preferences and therapist availability.
Standards you can trust
How we match you with the right therapist
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and we take time to get the match right.
A careful match, not a long list
Therapist availability changes from week to week, so rather than asking you to choose from a directory, we take time during your free 15-minute consultation to understand what you are looking for — and then match you with a therapist suited to your needs.
During the consultation, we will ask about:
- The type of support you are looking for, and any concerns you would like to focus on
- Whether you would prefer face-to-face counselling, online sessions, or a combination of the two
- Any preferences around therapy approach (counselling, CBT, EMDR, couples work, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, ACT and others)
- Day and time availability that works around your life
- Any specialisms that matter to you — for example anxiety, trauma, relationships, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, or neurodiversity-affirming support
- Practical preferences, such as therapist gender, age range, or shared lived experience where relevant
All therapists we work with are qualified and registered with appropriate UK professional bodies, and we will confirm the most suitable options with you before any sessions begin.
Professional standards across our team
Hope Therapy & Counselling Services has been operating since 2014, and we hold Organisational Membership with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). We work in line with the NCPS Code of Ethics and BACP Good Practice, and our wider clinical standards include:
- Qualified, professionally registered therapists across the team – registrations vary per therapist and are confirmed before matching
- Ongoing clinical supervision in line with professional body requirements
- Continuing professional development to maintain and develop practice
- Clear confidentiality standards, with limits explained before sessions begin
- Client-centred, non-judgemental and inclusive practice across all areas of identity and experience
- Founder-led clinical oversight from Ian Stockbridge — MBACP (Senior Accredited) – who continues to lead the practice and oversee its standards
Whether you choose face-to-face counselling near you or online therapy from anywhere in the UK, you can expect to be matched with a therapist who is appropriately qualified and suited to the support you are looking for.
Why Hope Therapy
What makes us different
We’re not the only counselling service — but here’s why clients choose and stay with us.
Carefully matched from 90+ therapists
We listen to what you need during your free consultation and carefully match you with a therapist whose skills, style and approach fit you — from one of England’s largest independent counselling teams. If the match doesn’t feel right, we’ll find someone who does.
A real person, when you reach out
When you call or message, you’ll hear back from a member of our team — not a chatbot or an automated queue. Phone lines are open daily, with sessions typically available Monday to Friday and limited weekend slots. If we miss your call, we’ll get back to you the same working day wherever possible.
Truly UK-wide coverage
Online sessions available nationwide. Face-to-face across 20+ counties in England from Oxfordshire to Wakefield, Bishop’s Stortford to Leicester. Wherever you are, we can work with you.
Inclusive & affirming
Specialist support for LGBTQIA+ individuals and neurodivergent adults, delivered by practitioners experienced in working with the issues that matter to you.
Ten therapeutic approaches, one team
From counselling and CBT to EMDR, hypnotherapy, mindfulness and ACT — we offer a breadth of evidence-based approaches under one roof, so we can tailor support to you rather than fitting you into a single model.
NCPS organisational standards
We hold Organisational Membership with the NCPS, and our team includes therapists registered with the BACP, NCPS and BABCP — meaning our practice and our practitioners meet recognised professional standards.

SCoPEd Band C
MBACP & SNCPS Senior Accredited
“Having worked for more than 25 years in senior management, I saw the same thing repeatedly — people struggling with mental health and relationship challenges, and so often struggling to access the right support when it was needed. It was out of this recognition of human need that Hope was born.”
Ian Stockbridge founded Hope Therapy after 25+ years leading large commercial teams – watching colleagues carry stress, anxiety, and personal difficulty with nowhere to turn. He retrained rigorously, now holding Senior Accredited status with both the BACP and NCPS, alongside SCoPEd Band C — the highest independent competence verification in the UK counselling profession.
He remains a practising therapist, clinical supervisor, published author of PMDD Uncovered, and co-presenter of The Talk Room Podcast. Hope Therapy was built on the things he saw were most broken – and designed, from the ground up, to do better.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
What happens in the free consultation?
It’s a brief, relaxed 15-minute conversation with a member of our team. We’ll listen to what’s going on, answer any questions you have, and explore whether counselling could help. There’s no pressure to book further sessions — many people tell us the call itself gave them clarity and reassurance, even if they weren’t ready to start straight away.
How much does therapy cost?
Individual sessions start from £65, couples counselling from £85, and EMDR from £95 per session. Costs are discussed during your free consultation so you’re clear before committing.
I’m nervous about starting — is that normal?
Completely. Many of our clients feel the same way. Your counsellor will support you to feel safe and ready before you begin — there’s absolutely no rush.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are confidential, conducted in line with professional ethical standards. There are some limited exceptions — for example, where there is a risk of serious harm — and your therapist will explain these clearly before you begin working together.
Do you offer online counselling across the UK?
Yes. All our counsellors offer sessions via Zoom, Skype or telephone. We work with clients across the UK and internationally — so wherever you are, we can support you.
Do you offer face-to-face sessions near me?
Yes. We have therapists offering face-to-face sessions across 20+ counties in England, including Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, West Yorkshire and London, among others. If in-person sessions aren’t available near you, all our therapists also offer online sessions via Zoom or telephone.
How do you match me with a therapist?
During your free consultation we learn about your needs, preferences and availability. We then carefully match you with the most suitable qualified therapist from our team of 90+.
Can I change therapist if it doesn’t feel right?
Yes. We take great care to match you with the right therapist, but we understand that the fit needs to feel right for you. If your first match doesn’t feel comfortable, let us know and we’ll find someone better suited — at no extra cost.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
We offer counselling, CBT, EMDR, hypnotherapy, mindfulness (MBCT), ACT, compassion focused therapy, coaching and integrative approaches. Your therapist will recommend what’s right for you.
