You don’t need the right words to start
Maybe you’ve been lying awake trying to work out what this is. Maybe you’ve typed half a dozen things into a search bar tonight — why do I feel like this, why can’t I switch off, why does everything feel heavier than it used to — without finding anything that quite fits. That is more common than you might think. Most people who come to us don’t arrive with a neat label. They arrive with a feeling that something isn’t right.
This page brings together every area our counsellors work with, in one place. You can browse by what feels closest to your experience — and if nothing quite fits, that’s okay too. You don’t have to diagnose yourself before you reach out. That was never your job.

Not sure which page fits? Start with a conversation
Real life rarely sorts itself into tidy categories. Anxiety and low mood often arrive together. A relationship difficulty can sit underneath a drinking habit. Burnout can look a lot like depression. If you recognise yourself in more than one of these pages — or in none of them — that doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. It means you’re human.
This is exactly what our free 15-minute consultation is for. You don’t need to explain everything, and you don’t need to have worked out which category you belong in. We listen to what is going on, then match you with a therapist from our team of 90+ whose experience fits your situation — not a label.
Counselling with us is confidential, and sessions move at your pace. There are limited circumstances where confidentiality may need to change — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else — and your therapist will explain these clearly before you begin. Counselling is a space to think and be heard; it is not medical treatment, and we don’t diagnose. If you ever need a diagnosis or medical advice, your GP is the right first step.
Our Approach
How we can support you
We offer a range of evidence-based approaches. Your therapist will recommend what fits your situation — you don’t need to choose in advance.
Counselling
A confidential, one-to-one space to make sense of what you are carrying — at your own pace, with a therapist who listens without judgement. Often the right starting point when you are not sure what you need.

CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a structured, practical approach that helps you recognise the thought patterns behind anxiety, low mood and unhelpful habits — and respond to them differently.

EMDR
A specialist approach for processing difficult or traumatic experiences, delivered by trained EMDR practitioners — online or face-to-face.

Our booking team and your therapist will discuss which approach — or combination — feels most appropriate for what you are bringing. You do not need to know which is right before you start.

Getting started
What to expect
Starting counselling can feel like a big step — especially when you are not sure what you need. Here is how it works.
1
Free consultation
A brief, relaxed 15-minute conversation with a member of our booking team. We listen to what is going on and explore whether counselling could help. No pressure, no obligation.
2
Matched with a therapist
Based on your needs and preferences, we carefully match you with one of our 90+ qualified therapists. If it doesn’t feel right, we’ll find someone else — at no extra cost.
3
Your first session
Your therapist will take time to understand your situation and what you are hoping to work on. There is no rush, no script, and nothing you have to share before you are ready.
Most clients hear back from us the same working day, and typically begin sessions within a week of the free consultation — depending on your preferences and therapist availability.
Standards you can trust
How we match you with the right therapist
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and we take time to get the match right.
A careful match, not a long list
Therapist availability changes from week to week, so rather than asking you to choose from a directory, we take time during your free 15-minute consultation to understand what you are looking for — and then match you with a therapist suited to your needs.
During the consultation, we will ask about:
- What you would like the work to focus on, and any specific concerns you would like support with
- Whether you would prefer face-to-face counselling, online sessions, or a combination of the two
- Any preferences around therapy approach (counselling, CBT, EMDR, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, ACT, compassion focused therapy and others)
- Day and time availability that works around your life
- Any specialisms that matter to you — for example LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, neurodiversity-affirming support, or particular life experiences
- Practical preferences — for example therapist gender, age range, or shared lived experience where that matters to you
All therapists we work with are qualified and registered with appropriate UK professional bodies, and we will confirm the most suitable options with you before any sessions begin.
Professional standards across our team
Hope Therapy & Counselling Services has been operating since 2014, and we hold Organisational Membership with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). We work in line with the NCPS Code of Ethics and BACP Good Practice, and our wider clinical standards include:
- Qualified, professionally registered therapists across the team — registrations vary per therapist and are confirmed before matching
- Ongoing clinical supervision in line with professional body requirements
- Continuing professional development to maintain and develop practice
- Clear confidentiality standards, with limits explained before sessions begin
- Client-centred, non-judgemental and inclusive practice across all areas of identity and experience
- Founder-led clinical oversight from Ian Stockbridge — MBACP (Senior Accredited) – who continues to lead the practice and oversee its standards
Whether you choose face-to-face counselling near you or online therapy from anywhere in the UK, you can expect to be matched with a therapist who is appropriately qualified and suited to the support you are looking for.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
What can counselling help with?
Counselling can support a wide range of difficulties — anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, relationship problems, low self-esteem, addiction and many others. It offers a confidential, one-to-one space to make sense of what you are carrying, at your own pace and without judgement. Many people also come to counselling without a specific label — simply because life has felt harder than usual.
How do I know what kind of support I need?
You don’t need to work that out on your own. During a free 15-minute consultation, we listen to what is going on and recommend a therapist and approach suited to your situation. There is no pressure and no obligation — it is simply a conversation.
How much does therapy cost in the UK?
At Hope Therapy, individual counselling starts from £65 per 50-minute session, CBT from £85, couples counselling from £85, and EMDR from £95. We may be able to offer sessions at a reduced rate — just ask during your free consultation, and your exact fee will be confirmed before you commit to anything.
Do you offer online counselling across the UK?
Yes. All of our counsellors offer sessions online via Zoom or telephone, so you can access support from anywhere in the UK. If you prefer face-to-face sessions, we also have therapists available in locations across England.
What if my difficulty isn’t listed on this page?
That’s okay — this page covers the most common areas we work with, but it isn’t exhaustive. If what you are going through doesn’t quite fit any of these pages, get in touch anyway. With a team of 90+ qualified therapists, there is a good chance we can match you with someone whose experience fits your situation.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Sessions are confidential in line with professional ethical standards. There are some limited exceptions — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else — and your therapist will explain these clearly before you begin.

“Having worked for more than 25 years in senior management, I saw the same thing repeatedly — people struggling with mental health and relationship challenges, and so often struggling to access the right support when it was needed. It was out of this recognition of human need that Hope was born.”
Ian Stockbridge founded Hope Therapy after 25+ years leading large commercial teams – watching colleagues carry stress, anxiety, and personal difficulty with nowhere to turn. He retrained rigorously, now holding Senior Accredited status with both the BACP and NCPS, alongside SCoPEd Band C — the highest independent competence verification in the UK counselling profession.
He remains a practising therapist, clinical supervisor, published author of PMDD Uncovered, and co-presenter of The Talk Room Podcast. Hope Therapy was built on the things he saw were most broken – and designed, from the ground up, to do better.
