PMDD in 2025: The Latest Insights

PMDD is gaining more recognition, and research from 2025 continues to highlight its impact:

  • Around 3–8% of menstruating individuals live with PMDD worldwide.
  • A PLOS ONE study published in April 2025 found PMDD significantly reduces quality of life — not just for those affected, but also for their partners. Emotional, social, and physical wellbeing were all shown to decline during symptomatic phases.
  • Women with ADHD are at a particularly high risk. Research published in July 2025 confirmed that those with ADHD were 3–4 times more likely to experience PMDD, especially when anxiety or depression were also present.
  • Many people continue to face years of delay before diagnosis, leading to unnecessary suffering and limited workplace or family support.

These findings emphasise why awareness, timely diagnosis, and access to counselling and treatment remain so important.
