There’s something quietly powerful about finding the right counsellor. Not someone who has all the answers neatly packaged up, but someone who knows how to sit with you in the uncertainty, the overwhelm, the questions you might not even have words for yet. That’s exactly why we’re genuinely pleased to be introducing Steve as the newest member of the Hope Therapy & Counselling Services team.
Based in Crewe, Cheshire, in the North West of England, Steve brings with him not just professional training and experience, but something equally important—lived understanding. And in counselling, that matters more than most people realise.
A Person-Centred Approach That Puts You First
Steve works as a person-centred counsellor. In simple terms, that means he won’t sit opposite you and tell you what you should do. There’s no checklist, no rigid structure, no “fixing” you.
Instead, Steve offers something far more valuable: space.
Space to talk, to process, to make sense of what’s going on in your life. Space where you’re not judged, corrected, or rushed. He works alongside you, at your pace, helping you gently move towards understanding, clarity, and—when you’re ready—change.
This kind of approach can feel like a relief, especially if you’ve spent a long time feeling like you need to have it all figured out before asking for help.

A Safe, Private Environment Designed Around You
Steve offers counselling from a purpose-built unit at his home, designed with comfort, privacy, and accessibility in mind. It’s completely separate from the main house, with its own entrance, disabled access, and dedicated toilet facilities.
It’s a space intentionally created to feel safe and contained—somewhere you can bring whatever is on your mind, knowing it stays there.
Confidentiality is at the heart of his work. What you share remains between you and Steve, held with care and respect.
For those who prefer flexibility, Steve also offers online sessions, making support accessible wherever you are.
From Corporate Life to Counselling: A Journey Shaped by Experience
Before becoming a counsellor, Steve worked as a senior manager in the corporate world. Like many people, counselling wasn’t something he ever imagined needing.
That changed.
In 2016, and again in 2018, Steve was diagnosed with cancer. At one point, he was told he may only have a few years left to live. Experiences like that have a way of shifting everything—perspective, priorities, identity.
Through treatment and support, Steve came into counselling himself for the first time. What started as a way to navigate his own experience became something more. He found not only support, but a genuine connection to the process—and a passion for helping others find that same sense of understanding and grounding.
He went on to train professionally, completing his degree in counselling and graduating in 2022.
Deep Experience in Bereavement, Illness, and Life Transitions
Since qualifying, Steve has built his own counselling practice while also working within a local hospice setting. His work there includes supporting individuals and families facing cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well as those navigating grief and bereavement.
He also facilitates group bereavement support, holding space for shared experiences of loss in a way that feels both human and manageable.
This depth of experience means Steve understands, in a very real way, the complexity of loss, uncertainty, and change. Not just theoretically—but emotionally, personally, and professionally.
Supporting a Wide Range of Challenges
Alongside his specialist work, Steve supports clients with a range of issues, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Relationship difficulties
- Workplace stress and employment-related challenges
Having personally experienced the pressures of corporate life—and even navigating an employment tribunal during his illness—Steve brings a grounded understanding of how overwhelming these situations can feel.
He also integrates elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into his work. This can be especially helpful when you’re facing something that can’t simply be “fixed,” but needs to be understood, accepted, and worked through in a different way.
Why Steve Chose Hope
Steve joined Hope Therapy & Counselling Services because the ethos aligns closely with his own: counselling that is human, client-led, and genuinely accessible.
At Hope, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. We believe in connection, in finding the right fit, and in creating spaces where people feel able to show up as they are.
Steve embodies that approach fully.
A Final Word from Steve
At the heart of everything Steve offers is a simple but important message:
This is your space.
Your sessions can go wherever you need them to. There’s no pressure to perform, no expectation to have the “right” words, and no judgement about where you’re starting from.
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step—especially if it’s your first time. Steve understands that, and he meets you exactly where you are.
If you’re based in or around Crewe, or looking for online counselling with someone who brings both professional expertise and genuine lived experience, Steve is now available for sessions through Hope Therapy & Counselling Services.
