Where to start
There is no single right way to ask for help with autism
Some people arrive here knowing exactly what they want. Others have been going round in circles for years, are exhausted, and are not sure what kind of support they are even looking for. Both are completely reasonable places to start from.
To make this simpler, we have set out the two main routes below. You do not have to be certain which one fits — a free 15-minute consultation is a good place to think it through with someone, without committing to anything.
Many of the adults who come to us for autism support are not in crisis. Many have spent a long time masking, wondering, or waiting. You do not have to have it all worked out, or prove anything, before you reach out.
Two clear routes
Which kind of autism support are you looking for?
Choose the route that fits where you are. If you are not sure, the consultation is the place to work it out.
Ongoing support
Autism Counselling
Affirming counselling for what often sits alongside being autistic — the cost of masking, sensory and social load, burnout, anxiety, and making sense of a late identification. With a counsellor who works with your neurotype, not against it.
- You want to work on the emotional layer, not just practical strategies
- You do not need a diagnosis to begin
- Ongoing sessions, online UK-wide or face-to-face

Alongside assessment
Autism Assessment Support
A shorter, structured programme for adults who are pursuing or awaiting a formal autism assessment. A space to make sense of the process, the waiting, and what an assessment might — and might not — change.
- You are on a waiting list or considering assessment
- You want structure rather than open-ended therapy
- A focused four-session programme

If you’re not sure
You don’t have to choose the right route on your own
Plenty of people start in one place and find another fits better. Some begin with assessment support and later move into ongoing counselling. Some do not need either yet — they just want to talk it through with someone who understands autistic experience before deciding anything.
That is what the free consultation is for. It is a brief, low-pressure conversation, not a therapy session, and there is no expectation that you arrive knowing what you want. If a phone call feels like a lot, you can ask to do it by email instead — that is a completely reasonable adjustment to request.
A note on what we don’t do
We do not carry out autism assessments or formal diagnoses — that work sits with specialist multidisciplinary teams, and we are not a diagnostic service. We also do not provide crisis support or support for active self-harm or suicidality. If you need urgent help, the resources at the bottom of this page are the right next step.
What we do offer
A team of 90+ qualified therapists, many experienced with autistic adults, offering sessions online across the UK and face-to-face across 20+ counties in England. Reduced-rate sessions may be available with one of our trainee counsellors — if you are matched with a trainee, you will be told clearly before sessions begin, in line with professional ethical standards.
A note on confidentiality: Sessions are confidential. There are limited circumstances in which this may need to change — for example, if there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where we have a legal obligation to disclose. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly before you begin your work together.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an autism diagnosis to get support from you?
No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to work with us. Many of the adults we support come before a diagnosis, while on a waiting list, or after deciding not to pursue formal assessment. Self-identification is valid here. What matters is that the support feels right for you.
What is the difference between autism counselling and assessment support?
Autism counselling is ongoing, affirming therapeutic support for what often sits alongside being autistic — the cost of masking, sensory and social load, burnout, anxiety, and processing a late identification. Assessment support is a shorter, structured programme for adults pursuing or awaiting a formal autism assessment who want help making sense of the process. The two are different, and the consultation is a good place to work out which fits.
Can a counsellor diagnose autism?
No. Counsellors and psychotherapists do not diagnose autism. A formal autism diagnosis is carried out by a specialist multidisciplinary team. We can talk with you about what the assessment pathway involves and offer affirming support around it.
Is autism support available online?
Yes. All our therapists offer sessions online via secure video, UK-wide. Many autistic adults find online sessions reduce sensory and social load — no unfamiliar building, no waiting room, more control over the environment. Face-to-face is available across 20+ counties in England.
Is autism support confidential?
Yes. Sessions are confidential. There are limited circumstances in which this may need to change — for example, if there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where we have a legal obligation to disclose. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly before you begin.
You don’t have to know which route is right before you reach out
A free, no-obligation 15-minute conversation. No pressure, no script — just a chance to be heard, ask questions, and see whether we feel like the right fit.
