Specialist Couples Therapy
Some relationship difficulties need a therapist who already understands them. This service matches you both with a couples therapist with specialist training or experience in your area of need. Sessions are available online across the UK, with face-to-face in some areas. We’d encourage a free 15-minute consultation first, so we can find the right match for you.

What is this service for?
Most of what couples bring to therapy is familiar ground for a good counsellor. Some of it isn’t. Your relationship might be carrying something that sits in a particular corner of human experience. It might take real knowledge to understand, and you may have already tried to explain it to people who didn’t quite get it.
That can be exhausting for both of you. Spending your first few sessions educating your therapist isn’t what you came for. And when things between you are already hard to talk about, not being understood can make it harder still.
This service exists for those situations. It matches you with a therapist who has specific training and experience in the area your relationship needs support with. The work can begin from understanding, rather than working towards it.
What can specialist couples therapy offer?
Specialist couples therapy offers the same confidential, professional relationship as any couples counselling, with one important difference. Your therapist has additional training or substantial experience in the specific area your relationship needs support with. That means they are likely to recognise the patterns, pressures and language of what you are both living with from the start.
Therapy can’t change the circumstances that brought you here, and it can’t make decisions for you. What it can offer is a space to make sense of them together: how they’re affecting each of you, what’s been hardest between you, and what might help you both feel steadier.
Many couples find that working with someone who already understands changes how the sessions feel. You don’t have to translate. You don’t have to wonder whether you’re both being taken seriously. You can say the difficult thing without first explaining everything around it, and your therapist will know what to listen for in each of you.
