Before you look at the price, here’s what it buys you

Knowing the cost is only part of the picture. Here’s what makes the difference.

Matched from 90+ therapists — for you specifically

We don’t hand you a directory and wish you luck. We listen during your free consultation and match you with the therapist whose skills, experience and approach best fit what you’re bringing. If the match doesn’t feel right, we’ll find someone who does — at no extra cost.

No waiting lists — usually within a week

The NHS waiting time for therapy is often six months or more in many areas of England. We can usually match you and have you in sessions within around a week of registering — though availability can vary by therapist and specialism. When you’re ready to start, waiting shouldn’t be the obstacle.

We answer the phone 9am–9pm

Between these hours every day of the week a real person picks up. Sessions run Monday to Friday with limited weekend availability, and we’ll always work with you to find a time that fits around work, family and life.

Qualified and professionally accountable

Every therapist is registered with the BACP, NCPS, BABCP or equivalent. Hope Therapy holds Organisational Membership with the NCPS. Our practitioners operate within recognised ethical frameworks and undergo continuing professional development.

Inclusive and affirming

Specialist support for LGBTQIA+ individuals and neurodivergent adults, delivered by practitioners experienced in the issues that matter to you. You don’t have to explain yourself before you can be helped.

Online and face-to-face — your choice

All therapists offer sessions via Zoom or telephone, UK-wide. Face-to-face is available across 20+ counties in England. No compromise on quality either way.

What does therapy actually cost — and what does not going cost?

These numbers are worth sitting with before you decide.

Hope Therapy

From £65 / Session

Individual counselling with a qualified, matched therapist. No waiting list. Sessions between 50–60 minutes. No minimum commitment.

The personal cost of waiting

Weeks or Months

The time many people spend carrying difficult feelings before seeking support. Starting sooner — even for a small number of sessions — often makes a meaningful difference to how quickly things improve.

NHS therapy wait — often

6+ months

The typical wait for NHS talking therapies in many areas of England. That’s six months or more of carrying what you’re already carrying.

The personal cost of not seeking support is rarely counted the way a session fee is. It is worth sitting with that thought before deciding whether now is the right time.

Worried about cost? Please read this before you scroll past.

We don’t want money to be the reason someone doesn’t get support. In some circumstances we may be able to offer sessions at a reduced rate. Just ask during your free consultation — there’s no awkwardness and no judgement. We will always do our best to find a way.

From people who were once where you are now

I worried about the cost for months before I got in touch. Looking back, I can’t put a price on what those sessions gave me. I only wish I’d started sooner.

Individual counselling client

I’d been on an NHS waiting list for four months and was going nowhere. I started with Hope Therapy within a week and haven’t looked back. The difference has been night and day.

CBT client

The free consultation took away all my uncertainty about whether to go ahead. I knew within ten minutes it was the right decision. I’m so glad I made that call.

Client experiences are unique. Results vary between individuals.

Three steps to your first session

Simple, supportive, and no commitment until you’re ready.

1

Book your free consultation

A relaxed, no-obligation 15-minute conversation. We listen to what’s going on and explore whether counselling could help — no pressure to commit to anything.

2

Get matched with your therapist

We carefully select the most suitable therapist from our team of 90+. Availability can vary, so the sooner you reach out the better — but we usually start within around a week.

3

Begin sessions

Face-to-face or online — your choice. Your therapist works at your pace, with your priorities in mind. No minimum sessions. You stay in control from start to finish.

Most clients hear back from us the same working day, and typically begin sessions within a week of the free consultation — depending on your preferences and therapist availability.

How we match you with the right therapist

Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and we take time to get the match right.

A careful match, not a long list

Therapist availability changes from week to week, so rather than asking you to choose from a directory, we take time during your free 15-minute consultation to understand what you are looking for — and then match you with a therapist suited to your needs.

During the consultation, we will ask about:

  • What you would like the work to focus on, and any specific concerns you would like support with
  • Whether you would prefer face-to-face counselling, online sessions, or a combination of the two
  • Any preferences around therapy approach (counselling, CBT, EMDR, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, ACT, compassion focused therapy and others)
  • Day and time availability that works around your life
  • Any specialisms that matter to you — for example LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, neurodiversity-affirming support, or particular life experiences
  • Practical preferences — for example therapist gender, age range, or shared lived experience where that matters to you

All therapists we work with are qualified and registered with appropriate UK professional bodies, and we will confirm the most suitable options with you before any sessions begin.

Professional standards across our team

Hope Therapy & Counselling Services has been operating since 2014, and we hold Organisational Membership with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). We work in line with the NCPS Code of Ethics and BACP Good Practice, and our wider clinical standards include:

  • Qualified, professionally registered therapists across the team — registrations vary per therapist and are confirmed before matching
  • Ongoing clinical supervision in line with professional body requirements
  • Continuing professional development to maintain and develop practice
  • Clear confidentiality standards, with limits explained before sessions begin
  • Client-centred, non-judgemental and inclusive practice across all areas of identity and experience
  • Founder-led clinical oversight from Ian Stockbridge — MBACP (Senior Accredited) – who continues to lead the practice and oversee its standards

Whether you choose face-to-face counselling near you or online therapy from anywhere in the UK, you can expect to be matched with a therapist who is appropriately qualified and suited to the support you are looking for.

Frequently asked questions

Will therapy actually help me?

That depends on a number of things — including what you’re dealing with, what you’re hoping to get from therapy, and the fit with your therapist. The honest answer is that we can’t promise outcomes. What we can tell you is that the people who tend to get the most from therapy are those who are ready to be open, even when that feels uncomfortable. Your free 15-minute consultation is a good place to explore whether it could be right for you — with no pressure to commit.

How much does it cost in total — are there any other charges?

There is one additional cost worth knowing about: a one-off registration fee of £10 when you first join, which covers the secure setup of your client account. Beyond that, the session fees on this page are the only costs you will ever pay. No assessment charges, no ongoing admin fees, nothing buried in the small print. Your therapist will confirm all costs clearly before your first paid session.

Can I get a reduced rate if cost is a barrier?

We understand that cost can be a real barrier to getting help — and we don’t want it to stand in your way. In some circumstances we may be able to offer sessions at a reduced rate. Please ask during your free consultation and we will do our best to find something that works for you. There is no awkwardness in asking.

How quickly can I start?

With a team of 90+ therapists, we can usually match you and have you in sessions within around a week of registering — sometimes sooner. There are no waiting lists. That said, availability does vary by therapist, location and specialism, so if you have a preference for a particular day, time or approach it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no minimum commitment. Some people come for just two, three or four sessions and find that is exactly what they needed. Others benefit from six to twelve sessions, and some choose longer-term ongoing support. The pace and length of your work together is something you discuss openly with your therapist — you are always in control, and you can stop at any point.

Are your therapists qualified?

Yes. All of our counsellors and therapists are qualified and hold registration with an appropriate professional body — including the BACP, NCPS, BABCP or equivalent. Hope Therapy holds Organisational Membership with the NCPS, and fees are reviewed periodically to reflect practitioners’ qualifications and continuing professional development.

In some circumstances we may be able to offer sessions with a therapist who is still completing their professional training — working under formal supervision as part of an accredited placement. This would only ever be offered for a limited range of services and presentations where it is clinically appropriate, and it would always be explained to you clearly before you agreed to anything. If this has not been mentioned, your therapist is fully qualified and registered.

Confidentiality applies in all cases. Your therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality — such as safeguarding obligations — clearly before your first session.

Do London rates differ?

Yes. Location-adjusted rates apply in London, for both face-to-face and online sessions. Please ask during your free consultation and we will confirm the exact fee before you commit to anything — there are no surprises.

Built by someone who saw the need from the inside

Ian Stockbridge - Founder & Counsellor, Hope Therapy & Counselling

SCoPEd Band C

MBACP & SNCPS Senior Accredited

“Having worked for more than 25 years in senior management, I saw the same thing repeatedly — people struggling with mental health and relationship challenges, and so often struggling to access the right support when it was needed. It was out of this recognition of human need that Hope was born.”

Ian Stockbridge founded Hope Therapy after 25+ years leading large commercial teams – watching colleagues carry stress, anxiety, and personal difficulty with nowhere to turn. He retrained rigorously, now holding Senior Accredited status with both the BACP and NCPS, alongside SCoPEd Band C — the highest independent competence verification in the UK counselling profession.

He remains a practising therapist, clinical supervisor, published author of PMDD Uncovered, and co-presenter of The Talk Room Podcast. Hope Therapy was built on the things he saw were most broken – and designed, from the ground up, to do better.
