A flexible associate role at an established practice
Hope Therapy & Counselling Services has been operating since 2014. We are an Organisational Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work in line with the NCPS Code of Ethics and BACP Good Practice. Our team of 90+ qualified counsellors and therapists work across England — online and face-to-face — with a varied adult caseload spanning a wide range of presentations.
Associate roles with Hope Therapy are self-employed positions. You set your own availability, work flexibly around your existing commitments, and take on clients matched to your specialism and experience. We handle the enquiry, assessment, and matching process — you focus on the clinical work.
We are looking for practitioners who share our commitment to accessible, ethical, high-quality therapy. What matters is your post-qualification experience, your professional registration, and your ability to work with a diverse adult caseload both in person and online. All sessions are confidential and conducted in line with your professional body’s ethical framework. There are limited circumstances in which confidentiality may need to change — your professional body guidelines govern these, and all clients are made aware of these limits before sessions begin.
What We Offer
What working with us looks like
We aim to support our associates in the same way we support our clients — clearly, professionally, and without unnecessary complexity.
Flexible working
You set your availability and work around your existing commitments. No fixed hours, no minimum session targets beyond a baseline caseload of two to three clients. Associate work fits around your life and any other practice you already have.
Careful client matching
All clients are assessed by a qualified counsellor before referral. You receive clients matched to your experience, modality, and availability — not a random allocation. If a client is not the right fit, we reassign without pressure.
Competitive tiered rates
Pay is based on experience and is reviewed as your caseload and tenure grows. We invest in our associates’ development and offer access to discounted CPD opportunities as part of the working relationship.
Online and face-to-face
We operate across 20+ counties in England. Associates work with both online clients (nationwide) and face-to-face clients in their local area. We do not take on online-only practitioners — the ability to see clients in person is required.
Responsive support
Our team is available for queries about clients, referrals, and operational matters. You are never left to navigate a difficult clinical situation in isolation — and our clinical oversight structure ensures there is always a point of contact.
Discounted CPD
We support our associates’ ongoing professional development with access to discounted CPD opportunities. Continuing to develop your practice benefits both you and the clients you work with.

Our Standards
What we expect and what you can expect from us
Clinical quality and ethical practice
Hope Therapy is an NCPS Organisational Member and operates in line with the NCPS Code of Ethics and BACP Good Practice. We expect all associates to maintain the same standards in their client work — including ongoing supervision, professional development, and transparent practice.
- All associates maintain their own supervision in line with professional body requirements
- All associates hold valid professional indemnity insurance
- Clinical oversight is provided by Ian Stockbridge — MBACP (Senior Accredited), SCoPEd Band C
- We work within an inclusive, non-judgemental framework across all areas of identity and experience
- LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming practice is expected across the team
Diversity and inclusion
We value diversity across our team and actively welcome applications from counsellors of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. A team that reflects the diversity of the clients we work with is one that serves those clients better.
A note on client referrals
We do not allocate clients arbitrarily. Each referral goes through an assessment process, and clients are matched to associates whose experience, approach, and availability suit the presenting need. You are able to decline a referral if it falls outside your competence — and we will never pressure you to take on clients you are not equipped to support.
Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
What qualifications do I need to join Hope Therapy as an associate?
We require a minimum of two years post-qualification experience as a counsellor or psychotherapist. You must hold accredited or registered membership with a recognised UK professional body — such as the BACP, NCPS, UKCP, or BABCP. All modalities are welcome. We do not accept applications from counsellors in training.
Is the role employed or self-employed?
All associate roles with Hope Therapy are self-employed. You work flexibly around your existing commitments and maintain your own professional indemnity insurance. We provide the client referrals; you deliver the sessions.
Can I work fully online?
No. We require associates to be able to offer both face-to-face and online sessions. We do not take on online-only practitioners. This ensures we can meet the full range of client preferences and referral needs across our network.
How many clients will I receive?
We ask associates to support a minimum of two to three clients at any one time, though this grows over time depending on availability, specialism, and client matching. All clients are assessed before referral to ensure they are a good fit for your experience and approach.
How does the application process work?
Applications are submitted via the online form on this page. We review all applications and will be in touch if your experience and availability match our current needs. Please note that applications are currently closed — you can register your interest via the form and we will contact you when we reopen.
What modalities do you accept?
We welcome counsellors and psychotherapists from all modalities — including person-centred, integrative, CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic, EMDR, solution-focused, and others. What matters most is your post-qualification experience, your professional registration, and your ability to work with a diverse adult caseload.
