Description
What group supervision is
Supervision is not a luxury — it is a professional and ethical requirement for all practising counsellors, whether qualified or in training. Group supervision brings together a small number of practitioners under the guidance of an experienced supervisor to reflect on casework, explore challenges, and support one another’s professional development in a confidential, structured setting.
It is one of the most valuable forms of continuing professional development available. Hearing how peers approach similar situations, working through difficulties together, and receiving skilled facilitation often produces insights that individual supervision alone cannot.
How the sessions work
Each session runs for 90 minutes and is facilitated by a senior Hope Therapy supervisor with significant experience in clinical practice and practitioner development. Sessions are available online via a secure video platform, or face-to-face depending on location and availability.
Group supervision at Hope Therapy is conducted in full accordance with the NCPS Code of Ethics and ethical framework. All participants are expected to maintain the confidentiality of everything discussed within the group.
Who this is for
These sessions are open to both qualified counsellors and trainee counsellors on placement. Whether you are an experienced practitioner looking for a reflective space alongside peers, or a trainee building the supervised hours required for your qualification, group supervision offers a structured and professionally grounded environment in which to do that work.
If you are a trainee counsellor on placement with Hope Therapy, your supervisor will advise whether group supervision is appropriate for your current stage of training and how it fits alongside your individual supervision requirements.
Confidentiality within the group
Everything discussed in group supervision is confidential to the participants. Client material is discussed without identifying information, in line with ethical practice. All participants are bound by the same confidentiality expectations, and the facilitating supervisor will make these clear at the outset of each session.
A note on supervision hours
If you are a registered or registrant-track member of the NCPS or BACP, group supervision may count toward your required supervision hours — but you should verify this with your professional body and, where applicable, your training provider, as requirements vary by membership grade and context.
