Building a mental health routine doesn’t mean you have to overhaul your life overnight. In fact, the most sustainable routines are the ones that feel natural, supportive, and flexible—not forced or rigid.
A sustainable mental health routine is not about checking boxes. It’s about creating space each day to support your emotional well-being in ways that are realistic for your lifestyle and energy level.
Start Small and Specific
Instead of committing to a long list of habits, start with one. Choose something small that feels achievable, like taking a short walk after lunch or journaling for 2 minutes before bed.
Anchor to Existing Habits
Attach new habits to routines you already do. For example:
- After brushing your teeth, take three deep breaths.
- While waiting for your coffee to brew, do a light stretch.
These mini-habits stack well and help new practices feel natural.
Track Progress Gently
A habit tracker or a simple daily check-in can help you stay mindful, but avoid harsh self-judgment. Instead of aiming for perfection, reflect on what helped and what you might want to tweak.
Be Flexible
Life changes, and so will your needs. Give yourself permission to adapt your routine. What works in one season might shift in another—and that’s okay.
Hope Therapy offers UK wide, Mental Health and Wellbeing Support via Coaching, Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy.
Our mental health and wellbeing support includes private clients looking for personal counselling (One to One, Couples & Families) through to Large County Councils, Charities and Companies where the organisation may be arranging or funding sessions, possibly through an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) arrangement.
We understand how nerve-racking these times can be and how they affect people differently. As such, your counsellor will not only focus on your support but will also help you become ready to start your journey.
We have access to counsellors covering a large number of areas throughout England, so you may well be able to see us face-to-face wherever you are. However, we all offer Skype, Zoom and telephone support, so wherever you are, we will be able to work with you. People work with us from literally all areas of the country and, in some cases, from abroad.
We support clients one to one, together with couples counselling and family therapy or via group support, either remotely or in-clinic
