Many people either don’t know quite what a healthy diet is or struggle to stick to one.

Emotional eating can occur for a number of reasons including boredom or as a mask for underlying emotional issues.

Motivation and just keeping on track can also be a huge issue for many.

We at Hope Therapy offer a holistic approach to this problem, by helping you to both understand more about the food you are eating, while giving you the support to better help you stick to the diet that works best for you.

We support you:

  • Face to face or from home via zoom or skype.

  • In an effective way.

  • Using qualified counsellors and where required our dietician.

What can you expect?

  • We will support you to better understand your relationship with food.

  • We are able to tailor-make the approach to your needs. This may involve a consultation with our fully qualified dietician or just with our counselling team depending on what you are trying to achieve.

  • To offer psychological and emotional support, to help manage any underlying issues that may lead to your relationship with food, along with the complications that come from it.

  • Offer understanding, interventions, guidance and support.

Understanding the importance of weight management

Weight loss and weight management is about more than looking good. Maintaining a healthy weight can help prevent medical conditions such as diabetes.

Additionally, a new Public Health England study has found that being severely overweight puts people at greater risk of hospitalisation, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission and death from COVID-19, with risk growing substantially as body mass index (BMI) increases

According to the NHS, obesity is a common problem in the UK that's estimated to affect around 1 in every 4 adults and around 1 in every 5 children aged 10 to 11.

The relationship between mental health and weight

Studies have shown that mental health and weight can be closely tied together, and taking a combined approach to treatment can be especially beneficial.

In addition to eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia, there is also a strong correlation between weight and depression. A 2010 review showed that people who were obese had a 55% increased risk of developing depression over time, whereas people experiencing depression had a 58% increased risk of becoming obese.

Some of the medication used to treat mental health conditions can also be a contributing factor in struggles to manage weight. By taking a comprehensive approach, we help our clients find the right balance of treatment, counselling and diet to see an improvement in their condition.

How does therapy work with diet and exercise?

At Hope Therapy, we believe it is important to avoid using fad diets or other unhealthy solutions to lose weight. Instead, we focus on instilling lifelong good eating, exercise and mental health habits.

We offer a variety of support options to help you manage weight, adjust your diet and feel better.
